J.Crew White-and-Navy Polka-Dot Dress

Photos: Katie Derus | Trench: H&M (similar at ModCloth) | Dress: J.Crew | Sunglasses: Karen Walker Perfect Day | Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar here) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (similar here) | Necklace: Ann Taylor | Bracelets: F21, J.Crew, Nordstrom

This dress became a spring must-have as soon as I saw it at J.Crew. Although I think it's supposed to be just to the knee or even a little higher on the model, I like that it's tea-length on me. Note: I didn't make any alterations to this dress--it just fit nicely off the rack.

Here I'm wearing it with a new Katniss-inspired (from The Hunger Games) hairstyle I've been trying. After these photos, I ended up keeping the braid for most of the day, and it stayed pretty well. It's a cute way to make a side bun, which gives you the perfect opportunity to add some whimsical flowers and bows (like the pink gingham rosette I wore here) to your hair.

    1. You've outdone yourself again =). I was torn as to whether I should do this post in just black and white because the BW versions look so cool. Maybe I'll have to do an aggregate black and white photo post.

  13. This is a beautiful dress. I love polka dots! Do you feel short when you wear it? I have to stay away from a lot of J Crew, Hilfiger and Lauren dresses because they hit tea length and my mother gave me these fat calves.

    1. Kathleen, I think the key to making sure the tea length isn't overwhelming is to wear nude-colored heels. It lenghens your calves and makes sure the dress isn't too close to the ground. As long as I have some lengthening heels on, I don't feel too short in this dress (relatively speaking, of course).

    2. Tam, Great point. I will wear nude heels the next time I hit the mall looking for dresses.
