I'm generally a faux fur girl through-and-through, but I love giving a new life to vintage real fur pieces, like the one I'm wearing here. My dad picked up the furs for this coat when he visited Ukraine almost forty years ago, and he had the coat custom made as a gift for my mom. While this definitely won't be an everyday coat for me, it'll be perfect for a fancy night out in the mountains.
You've probably noticed that I've been wearing my Current/Elliott jeans a lot recently. I've been obsessed with them ever since I picked them up at Saks before they shut down their store in Denver. Current/Elliott is one of the premium denim brands that has sizes all the way down to 23, so it's a great choice for petites. The ones I'm wearing are the Ankle Legging (no hem necessary!) in Blue/Black. Oh, and the best part? They will be on Gilt Groupe today (Monday, December 19)!
For those that don't know, Gilt Groupe is a website that hosts online sample sales for a huge variety of designers. Their sales begin daily at noon EST (10:00 AM in Denver), and you can reserve and purchase items on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to shop on Gilt Groupe, you'll need an invitation--if you're not already a member, click here for an invite from me.

My darling Tam, you are a vision of beauty and style in this gorgeous coat! I'm floored that it was a custom fur coat from Russia...and your dad had it made for your mom. What a precious and incredibly made timeless piece. You paired it perfectly with the rest of your outfit! (and I have a similar nail color right now)
ReplyDeleteInspiring me as always!

I love this outfit - so glam and gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed your blog and fashion sense. Until I came to this photograph. Do you know that real fur (like the one you are unfortunately wearing) is removed from the animal while they are still alive and breathing? Fashion is more than looking good with what you are wearing. As you can probably now imagine, this causes the animal tremendous suffering. Imagine somebody removing your skin off of you while you are still aware and conscious. I suggest you watch "Earthlings" and if you have any sense you will tell your dad to get rid of that hideous thing. Cruelty-free faux furs are available in stores everywhere so there is no excuse for anybody to be wearing the skin of another once living breathing being. Something to reflect on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. I do not own any furs of my own. Any other fur you see on this blog is faux. I wrote you an email further explaining the historical, traditional, cultural, and sentimental significance of this particular piece to me. I don't sanction the use of animals' furs for fashion, but when something vintage that is steeped in history, culture, and familial tradition is passed down to me, I will not throw it away.
