Transitioning to Fall: J.Crew Denim Jacket & rag + bone Margot Booties

JCrew denim jacket

Fall transition outfit

Coach Classic Shoulder Bag

Button-up skirt + denim jacket
Jacket: J.Crew | Top: Anthropologie (last styled here) | Skirt: Urban Outfitters | Booties: rag + bone 'Margot' Bag: Coach | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Necklace: Loren Hope c/o Rocksbox (detailed Rocksbox review here) Earrings: Gorjana c/o Rocksbox | Watch: Michael Kors

Last fall, I got my first pair of rag + bone booties, the 'Newbury' style from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (see me style them here). After finding them to be very cute and comfy, I then decided to add the 'Harrow' booties to my collection over the winter. When I started walking in them and found that the 3.5" heel felt like no heel at all, I was hooked (full review here). Now I've fallen hard for another style: the 'Margot,' which I'm wearing in this post. I had initially ordered them in black, but found the leather to look too similar to my Newburys and returned them; I was thrilled to finally snag a camel pair (thank you, Nordstrom Customer Service!).

Similar to my Harrows, the Margots are extremely comfortable, and it's hard to believe how high the heel is when you walk in them. The camel suede is a beautiful color, and it has a nice leg-lengthening effect. I like the ankle area of these more than my Harrows, actually, as it's more fitted for petite ankles. I'm wearing these now with skirts and shorts, but they'll transition nicely into cooler fall weather. A tip if you decide to spring for a pair: rag + bone footwear seems to run about a size small. I normally wear a 35 (5-5.5 US) in designer shoes, and 36 fits me well in all the styles I've mentioned here.

J.Crew has started offering some of their petite line in XXXSP and 000P, and when I saw this cute denim jacket on Kelly of Alterations Needed, I ordered an XXXSP to try myself. I think I would have been fine with my usual XXSP given how this jacket fits, but I like how slim this one is. Although it's too fitted on me for layering with long-sleeved tops, it's a nice late summer/early fall jacket. I'm looking forward to wearing it more often soon, but I'm going to fully enjoy the 90+ temperatures forecasted for this weekend.

Happy Friday!

A Jersey Jumpsuit at the Shore

Anthropologie Jersey Jumpsuit

Summer Jumpsuit

Coach Classics Small Shoulder Bag

Geo Jersey Jumpsuit Outfit
Jumpsuit: Anthropologie (on sale!) | Shoes: Splendid | Bag: Coach | Belt: Madewell | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Watch: Michael Kors | Bracelet: Vintage

I'm spending some at the beach this week, getting in some quality time with my family and soaking up some end-of-summer sunshine. I've been loving jumpsuits and rompers this summer--they're so comfy and can easily be dressed up or down. I wore this one out to a casual dinner at one of my family's favorite diners.

Hope you're having a great week!

P.S. I noticed the evening light made my skin look pretty pink-ish in these photos. Don't worry, I am following my sun safety tips and am making sure I don't burn!

Cozy Plaid (+ Sorel Slimpack Riding Boot Review)

Sorel Slimpack Riding Boot Review

Cozy Plaid Blanket Scarf + Turtleneck Sweater

Sorel Slimpack Riding Boots
Sweater: Anthropologie | Jeans: J Brand (the Mid-Rise Crop with its 27" inseam is perfect for no-alterations, ankle-length petite jeans) | Boots: Sorel 'Slimpack Riding' | Bag: Coach | Scarf: ASOS (currently out of stock, similar here) | Watch: Michael Kors

Since I haven't been able to do outfit photos during the week lately (Standard Time means I usually leave work well after dark), I've had to cluster my photo shoots on the weekends, which seem to be the only time it snows here. Although I prefer sunshine, I was happy to give my new Sorels a test run last weekend to see how they held up in cold, wet conditions.

I love my Frye boots, but they are definitely not made for wet weather, and my Hunter rain boots aren't always warm enough when it's really chilly. I decided to try out the Sorel Slimpack Riding Boots to fill the need for something "in between" during our Colorado winters. For mixing form with function, I liked the combination of leather upper + rubber shoe and sole + microfleece lining.

I found the sizing to run small. I normally wear a 5-5.5, and I ordered a 6 in these, which fit well for me with winter socks. While the calf area is pretty wide for smaller legs, the back has an adjustable tab that can be tightened to make them smaller. While this creates a bit of an awkward fold, I didn't find it to be uncomfortable or noticeable while I was wearing the boots.

Overall, they were comfortable right off the bat, and I wore them for an afternoon of walking and shopping at an outdoor mall with no break-in time necessary. My only complaint was that they were almost too warm for indoors when doing so much walking; while outdoors, on the other hand, I was cozy and warm in 20-degree weather. So far, I have found them to be waterproof in snow, slush, and rain, but I haven't given them a try in deep snow or big puddles. I'm planning to update this post with that info once I get to test them out in those conditions (I'm crossing my fingers for some snow this week in the mountains!).

Hope you're having a lovely Christmas week!

Fall Back

Fall outfit--Frye boots

Classic fall

J.Crew Houndstooth Blazer

Fall outfit details
Blazer: J.Crew (on sale!) | Scarf: Nordstrom | Jeans: J Brand (the Mid-Rise Crop with its 27" inseam is perfect for no-alterations, ankle-length petite jeans) | Boots: Frye "Melissa Button" | Bag: Coach | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Bracelets: Banana Republic, Tiffany, Vintage | Watch: Michael Kors | Lips: NARS "Funny Face"

I pulled out my beloved Frye Melissa Button Boots (read my review here) for the first time since last spring over the weekend. Sean and I trekked over to one of our favorite breweries to sample their fall selection, and this outfit kept me comfortable and cozy for the long walk.

The J.Crew blazer I'm wearing was my first purchase of their Schoolboy style, and I really liked the proportions of it on my frame. This houndstooth wool is warm and on-trend, but I subsequently snagged a black, lightweight wool version during one of their 25%-off-full-price promotions, and I have been wearing it constantly for work over the last couple months. (For reference, I am wearing a 00P here, and it didn't require any alterations.)

Hope you are having a great week!

Seaside White (with My Favorite 7FAM Skinny Jeans)

Turquoise + white denim

Coach Penny Bag

Anthropologie Sloane Tank
Tank: Anthropologie (on sale!) | Jeans: 7 For All Mankind | Shoes: Ann Taylor | Bag: Coach | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Necklace: Theresa Mink (similar wishbone necklace here) | Bracelets: Ann Taylor, Vintage | Earrings: purchased in Turkey | Watch: Michael Kors | Lips: NARS "Dragon Girl"

Last beach post for me today! This was from a slightly cooler evening, so I pulled out my favorite white skinny jeans and added a jacket later for a stroll down the boardwalk. These jeans are definitely one of my most comfortable pairs, and they're a staple for my summer airplane trips. They're not too thick, and they're stretchy enough to be comfortable while seated for a long time without the dreaded sag when you stand back up again. I've also spilled all sorts of stuff on them and had them come clean with no trouble at all.

The tank I'm wearing is on sale at Anthropologie at the moment, and everything in their sale section is an additional 20% off at the moment with lots of petite sizes left. (The crochet dress I was wearing in my last post is eligible for the additional discount and is perfect for an end-of-summer beach party!)

Happy Friday!

Beachy Keen

Anthropologie Crochet Dress

Crochet Beach Dress

Anthro Petites Ardere Cover-Up
Dress: Anthropologie (on sale!) | Shoes: J.Crew | Bag: Coach | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Necklaces: Brian Gavin, Theresa Mink (similar wishbone necklace here) | Bracelets: Ann Taylor, Vintage | Earrings: purchased in Turkey | Watch: Michael Kors | Lips: NARS "Dragon Girl"

I'm back at work today, but I still have pretty beach photos to share with you! I was definitely gazing longingly at the backdrop last night while simultaneously editing these and trying to prepare my cases for court this week.

The cover-up I'm wearing here was a surprising favorite from a recent Anthropologie order. It's 40% off its original price right now, and I was impressed with its quality and comfort. While it's perfect for the beach, I can see myself wearing it out and about, too. One thing to note: the lining stops just before the tassels at the bottom, and if you're much taller than me (4'11"), you might want to order it in regular instead of petite sizing if you want to wear it as a dress. On me, the lining is just long enough to avoid the possibility of a wardrobe malfunction.

Hope you have a great week!

En Provence

Strolling through Gordes, Vaucluse, Provence
Tee: J.Crew (similar here) | Skirt: Zara | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: Manolo Blahnik | Bag: Coach | Necklaces: J.Crew, Brian Gavin | Bracelets: David Yurman, H&M c/o | Watch: Michele

After a week in Paris, we hopped on the TGV train again and sped down to Avignon in Provence, where we rented a car and drove over increasingly narrow roads into the Luberon, a beatiful valley with amazing food and wine and the loveliest little villages.

We stayed in Bonnieux at a pretty little bed and breakfast, Les Terrasses du Luberon, where our hosts helped us find all the best local markets, restaurants, and sights. Compared to Paris, it was slower and more relaxed, and we couldn't get enough of the warm, sunny weather.

Village of Gordes, Provence

One of the little towns we visited was Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. It's built into a hillside with lots of winding stone streets, and it looks out over the Luberon valley, with its cherry and olive trees, vineyards, and fields of lavender.

Looking out of Gordes

Lots of cobblestone streets and dirt paths meant I was carrying my Manolos (or just leaving them in the car) and sporting my Matt Bernson flats the majority of the time--but I ended up wishing I had brought proper hiking shoes, too. There were so many great trails and walks in the area that would've been lovely to wander--they'll have to wait until next time!

Manolo Blahnik Carolyne

I was still pretty adventurous in my ballet flats, though, which is good since most of the streets in these quaint villages looked like the photo below. We were constantly marveling at the way cities and villages were built with no thought to the automobile (obviously, since it didn't exist when they were built). It was so interesting when compared with I am used to at home in the U.S., where even the oldest cities have been overhauled and remodeled to accommodate cars, cars, and more cars. These cozy little streets and old villages made me feel like I was in a storybook!

Gordes at Dusk.jpg

We made a stop on our way out of Gordes at the gorgeous 12th century Abbey of Sénanque, where the monks have been growing lavender and producing lavender products for nearly a century. Although the lavender doesn't bloom until June, there was a hint of dusty purple at the tips of the plants--I can't imagine how gorgeous it must be when it's blooming. The Abbey is still a functioning monastery today, and the monks have taken a vow of silence, so the stillness and peace there were overwhelming. It was one of my favorite parts of our Provence visit.

Hope you've enjoyed my travel-centric posts for the last couple weeks! This is my last France post until we get our wedding pictures back--can't wait to share those with you. Hope you have a great weekend!

Prep for Spring

Preppy Layers

Accessories

JCrew Navy Blazer
Jacket: J.Crew (similar in petite and regular currently 40% off) | Sweater: Arden B. | Collar: J.Crew (removed from a different sweater) | Skirt: F21 | Belt: Madewell | Sunglasses: Hugo Boss (borrowed from boyfriend) | Bag: Coach | Boots: MICHAEL (this season's) | Bracelets: J.Crew, H&M | Watch: kate spade

Whenever spring begins to feel like it's just around the corner, it seems I always get the itch to pull this workhorse of a navy polka-dot skirt out of my closet as soon as the weather seems even slightly inclined to be mild (here it is last spring and the spring before that). Of course, I can be almost certain the it will snow the day after, but I kind of love that about Colorado spring.

P.S. In case your wardrobe needs both a spring update and a winter refresh, J.Crew has a fantastic sale going on at the moment with 40-50% off and lots of new stuff (petite stuff, too!) added to sale. My picks: my closet staple The Button Painter Tee, this Lace-Trim Swiss Dot Top, a work-friendly shrunken cardigan from the girls' section, The Caroline (I'd say size 10 = 00P women's, 12 = 0P, 14 = 2P or 0 regular), and lots of gorgeous coats.
