It's not Sunday, but I just wanted to share with you some snapshots from my recent trip to Turkey via my Instagram feed. It was such a beautiful, interesting place steeped in thousands of years of human history, and I loved learning more about this fascinating part of the world. My family and I did a whirlwind tour through Istanbul, Izmir, Kusadasi, and the Cappadocia region, mixing sightseeing, shopping, and eating lots of delicious Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food.

An extra element of adventure was thrown into the mix when our bags decided to follow an itinerary completely separate from ours. Thank goodness I packed a change of clothes in my carry-on! After a little shopping in Istanbul, we picked up some necessities and traveled light for the remainder of the trip. Although it was frustrating not to have the outfits I carefully selected and packed, I did learn that packing light has a lot of advantages. After being forced to travel only with the necessities, I feel prepared to do it again (on purpose this time!).

Have a wonderful week, readers!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I am on my way to Turkey at the moment. After a couple travel snafus at the beginning of our trip (hence the time for blogging at the airport), I'm crossing my fingers that, as you're reading this post, I'll be sightseeing in Istanbul. After learning my lesson when my DSLR died in Paris, I've brought all the necessary chargers, batteries, and memory cards to properly document this trip.

In the meantime, here are a few shots from my Instagram feed over the last few weeks (see previous Insta-posts here). Enjoy!

I learned a couple things on my trip to Paris.

1. The people who said Paris in the springtime was generally chilly and rainy were absolutely right. I thought I was prepared to ward off the cool weather and some spring showers when I packed my umbrella and rain boots, but the chill was a little more biting than I had expected--fifty degrees in dry, sunny Denver is very different from fifty degrees, damp, and raining in Paris.

Enter this fabulous Zara leather jacket, which was both reasonably priced (even in euros) and the perfect fit. I'd been searching high and low for a petite-friendly leather motorcycle jacket in the U.S. that met these criteria to no avail, yet there it was right when I needed it. I was warm and cozy for the rest of the trip. (Although the black jacket I have appears to be out of stock online at the moment, you can still snag the cream one right now.)

2. Always bring your charger and a back-up battery for your fancy camera. I wish I had lots of gorgeous photos to share with you, but my DSLR camera ended up being an expensive and awkwardly-shaped paperweight after I forgot to pack these essentials. Live and learn! On the bright side, I am continually impressed with the quality of the photos one can take with the iPhone 4S.

Life lessons notwithstanding, it was truly a lovely trip. I adored the city, the food, the shopping, the history, the art, and the Parisians, and I can't wait to go again!

Monday Snapshots

[Photo 1] Shirt: H&M | Skirt: H&M (similar here) | Jewelry: Express, Tiffany, Nordstrom | iPhone Cover: kate spade (similar here) [Photo 2] Boots: Hunter (on sale in dark olive green) | [Photo 3] Books: Penguin Hardcover Classics (ModCloth has Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Oliver Twist, and Great Expectations) | [Photo 4] Jacket: Billabong | Shoes: Via Spiga (on sale!)

Just wanted to share a few pretty photos from my Instagram feed over the last couple weeks.

As an avid reader and lover of classic literature, I have been coveting Coralie Bickford-Smith's gorgeous hardcover, clothbound editions of my favorite classic novels since their debut. Her collaboration with Penguin to create this series of Penguin Hardcover Classics appeals to both my literary and aesthetic sensibilities. They're well worth the investment, in my opinion. I received the first few I ordered last week and fell in love all over again with my favorite Austen heroines. (If you're interested in chatting about books with me, come check out my shelves on Goodreads--I'm presently struggling through Infinite Jest.)

Denver's famously unpredictable weather means that one day's blizzard is the next day's mini-flood as the snow melts away in 60-degree sunshine. I'd been looking for a suitable pair of rain boots I could get away with wearing to work when it's wet and slushy, but finding some that didn't look childish or overwhelming on my petite frame proved to be a challenge. I finally tried on a few pairs from Hunter's Regent line and liked them quite a bit. They're narrower in the calf and ankle and come in sophisticated colors and patterns, making them look more like a riding boot than your classic Wellies. While the boot shaft is tall, I didn't find them to be uncomfortable, even when sitting or bending down.

The lovely white roses in the last photo really make me wish spring were here already! Whenever it finally decides to arrive, I know I'll be ready with plenty of reading material and rain boots for those flower-bringing showers.
