Travel Diary: Rottnest Island, Western Australia

Wandering Rottnest Island
{on me} Top: c/o Triangl | Bottoms: Target

I still have so many pretty photos left from our Australia trip this spring, I thought I'd share a few beachy pics with you today (right in the middle of beach season!). While Sean and I were in Western Australia, we took a ferry from Fremantle out to beautiful Rottnest Island, not too far off the coast from Perth. There are no cars on Rottnest, just buses, some golf carts, and lots of bikes.

Our original plan had been to explore the island by bike, but my hand injury threw a bit of a wrench in the works. We ended up getting bus tickets to ride around the island as much as we pleased, and we ended up having a great time. There are dozens of gorgeous beaches on the island, but we spent quite a bit of time in one little harbor with some beautiful scenery and a deserted beach.

One of my favorite parts of visiting Australia was seeing all the native animals. On Rottnest Island, they have a darling little marsupial called the quokka, and they are just as sweet, curious, and friendly as they look.

It was so hard not to feed them, but we knew it wasn't good for them to have "people food." This definitely didn't stop them from trying to finagle a snack from us. They are almost as good at begging as my little dachshund.

Hope those sweet little faces help you get through the rest of your week!

A Halloween Outfit for Work

Working in a professional environment means no fun costumes at work for me today, so here is my work-friendly, still-festive Halloween outfit. Hope you all have a happy Halloween!

Weekend Chic: Coral and Neutrals

Blouse: Urban Outfitters (similar here and here) | Pants: Arden B. (old) | Sunglasses: Prada | Shoes: Steve Madden (similar here) | Bag: kate spade new york | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), Express (similar from Max&Chloe), Ann Taylor, F21 | Watch: Michael Kors

Having just finished a big trial at work, I'm excited to do a little more blogging this week than I did last week. It's been a crazy month at work, and there's more still to come, so you might hear from me a little less than usual in the coming weeks.

I got to relax a little this weekend and take a walk down to one of my favorite brunch spots. This outfit was perfect for a warm summer morning stroll, and while the base pieces are fairly low-key and neutral, I added a lot of fun accessories to make it a little more interesting.

Readers, what did you do this weekend?

What to Wear to Impress Your Date: Petite Fashion Challenge #18

For this Petite Fashion Challenge, the lovely Amber of Easy Petite Looks asked us to share an outfit we'd wear to "impress our dates," with bonus points for taking pictures with our dates or on a girls' night out.

Dress: Abercrombie | Sunglasses: Prada | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar style here and here) | Necklace: Ann Taylor (similar here)| Bracelets: Swarovski, Express, F21| Watch: Fossil | Fingers: CND Shellac "Wildfire" | Toes: Essie "Turquoise & Caicos "

Well, no bonus points for me, unfortunately. My date couldn't be in these photos with me since he was the one taking them. He did, however, approve of this look! He likes when my hair is up, so I decided to wear it in this super-easy bun, and the rest of the outfit came together after that. It was perfect for an evening dessert date, and I think he was suitably impressed--if only by the height of my usually-down hair.

Anchors Aweigh! (An ASOS Review)

Dress: ASOS (on sale!) | Belt: H&M | Sunglasses: Prada | Shoes: BCBG | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (similar here and here) | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), Express (similar from Max&Chloe), Ann Taylor, F21, Boutique

Yesterday, you all saw my patriotic pre-Fourth outfit--the outfit in these photos is what I wore to yesterday evening's fun festivities!

This anchor-print dress was one of my first purchases from British online retailer ASOS, and for only $29 plus free shipping, it's a real bargain (it's actually only $22 in white with a good range of sizes available!). The fit and quality both left me pleasantly surprised and exceeded my expectations. The other dress in my order (see this post) also fit well and was as attractive in person as it appeared online. I definitely will be ordering more from them in the future!

Rare Finds: a Petite-Friendly Leather Jacket and Maxi Dress

Photos: Katie Derus | Jacket: Zara | Dress: Ann Taylor Petites (no longer available, but you can find maxis in petite sizing here, here, and here)| Sunglasses: Prada | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Necklace: JenniJewel | Bracelets: F21, Ann Taylor, Saks | Earrings: Kendra Scott

This Sunday brunch outfit (last seen in this Snapshots post) is a combination of some of my favorite things in my closet at the moment. Exhibit A: a well-fitting, perfect-off-the-rack leather jacket (I know you've seen a lot of it lately!). Exhibit B: a maxi dress in a great print that didn't need alterations. Exhibit C: these pretty and unique Kendra Scott earrings with my turquoise quatrefoil necklace. Between this outfit (favorite clothes) and brunch (favorite Sunday activity), I was a happy girl.

Prep-a-Porter: Yellow Skinnies and Stripes

Photos: Katie Derus | Shirt: Urban Outfitters (similar here on sale) | Button-Down: Abercrombie | Pants: H&M (similar here)| Sunglasses: Prada | Shoes: MICHAEL (similar from DSW | Bag: Tory Burch (the exact one I have is no longer available, unfortunately) | Necklace: Ann Taylor | Sunglasses: Prada | Bracelets: Common Era, Boutique Bling Breckenridge | Rings: F21

I love this versatile Urban Outfitters striped shirt. It's no longer available, but you can find a similar style here (on sale!). A classic striped tee with a subtle boatneck and three-quarter-length sleeves looks timeless and chic whether you mix it with other patterns like I have done previously, or whether you wear it layered with a preppy button-dwon and bright-colored jeans like I did here. (Remember my preview of this outfit in my last post and on my Instagram feed?)

Although I've theoretically known that leopard print is a great, fun neutral for a while now (see me in these same pumps in one of my very first posts), it continues to amaze me how well it pairs with almost everything! So much so, that today, I brought home a leopard cardigan (shh--it's on sale in J.Crew's kids' section, Crewcuts) to add a little interest to my extensive solid-colored cardigan collection!
