Buffalo check + Hunter boots

Hunter Packable Tour Rain Boots

Weekend Cozy by Hello Framboise
Sweater: LOFT | Denim: 7FAM (with DIY distressing) | Boots: Hunter 'Packable Tour' | Scarf: J.Crew Factory | Bag: Mansur Gavriel | Hat: Anthropologie | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Watch: Michael Kors

I've owned and loved my black Hunter 'Regent' rain boots for several years now, and recently I thought I'd expand my Hunter collection with a pair of the classic boots in a bright color. I tried on the original glossy style, but I found them to be very heavy on my feet, and they looked too wide in the calf area on me. After seeing them on Jean, I decided to see if the 'Tour' style was a better fit for me.

The 'Tour' is a lighter, slimmer rubber boot that's intended to be easily folded and packed for travel. I've traveled with my Regent boots without folding them in my suitcase (I stuff socks and rolled t-shirts in them to put the space to good use), but it's convenient to be able to make these more compact. Good rain boots are a must-bring for me on fall or spring trips where I'm planning to do a lot of sightseeing and there's a possibility of showers. Walking around beautiful places and sightseeing with cold, wet feet is no fun, and my trusty Hunters have saved the day on a number of wet, chilly vacation days.

The Tours are a good fit for me in the smaller of the sizes I usually take. I usually wear between a 5 and 5.5, with the occasional 6 if the shoes run small, but I've found I always take a 5 in Hunters. The toe area was roomy, and my arches felt decently supported in them. I tried them for a day of running errands in overcast, damp weather, and they were comfortable throughout the day albeit a little too warm in some stores. I've also worn these for trips up to the mountains this winter. They are great for keeping my feet dry while taking little Stanley out for a walk in the cold, wet snow, but staying outside much longer than a quick walk would probably require thicker, insulating socks. The Tours will be perfect for springtime, especially if this spring is anything like the rainy one we got last year.

Work Outfit: the Shirt-under-Dress Look

Shirt Under Dress Outfit

Layering Shirt under Dress
Shirt: BCBG | Dress: LOFT (similar here) | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Bag: Reed Krakoff | Bracelets: David Yurman | Watch: Michele | Earrings: Vintage

Today I'm sharing a simple work look that puts a favorite sheath dress to work as a grown-up, chic rendition of the classic schoolgirl-style jumper.

I don't often wear this type of structured collared shirt with my suits because of their tendency to quickly become untucked and unkempt-looking when I'm constantly moving around a courtroom (yes, you really do have to stand up every time you make an objection or speak at all, then sit right back down). Under a dress, however, it's a non-issue, and with the sleeves rolled down and a blazer on top, the whole look is very professional and put-together.

P.S. I am linking up with Mix & Match Fashion this week for her What I Wore to Work Linkup.

Tweed & Jeans

LOFT Tipped Tweed Open Jacket

Kate Spade Orchard Valley Doris

Sunshine

Tweed jacket & jeans
Jacket: LOFT | Blouse: Urban Outfitters (last seen here) | Jeans: Paige | Shoes: L.K. Bennett | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Bag: kate spade new york | Necklaces: Ann Taylor, Brian Gavin | Bracelets: David Yurman, Tiffany | Watch: Michele

I happened upon this great sweater-jacket at LOFT recently, and loved how it had the structured look of a blazer, but the softness and comfort of a sweater. It has been easy to style for work or more casually, as I have here.

I like that I've been seeing more bootcut jeans around after having all-skinnies-all-the-time for the last few years. I pulled these Paige jeans out of my closet and decided they paired well with the tweed jacket. The style I'm wearing is the Laurel Canyon, which is still available and is a great fit for petite, slim-hipped ladies. The sizing runs relatively small, and the low rise ensures that the waistband fits snugly and doesn't gap. Although I generally wear a 23 in denim, I wear a 24 in this style.

3-2-1 Contrast

Coat: J.Crew (in regular, petite, and tall sizes and on an amazing sale, but hurry--sizes selling out quickly!) | Dress: LOFT (last seen here) (similar from Ann Taylor in petite and regular sizing) | Turtleneck: H&M (last seen here) | Tights: Wolford | Shoes: Loeffler Randall | Sunglasses: Karen Walker Perfect Day | Bag: Vintage | Necklace: F21 | Bracelets: Tiffany, Boutique, Vintage, F21

While this gorgeous peacoat didn't initially appear to be all that special from the online photos, I fell hopelessly in love with it as soon as I tried it on at my local J.Crew. I waited a bit for a reasonable sale and snapped up a 00P, which fit me like a dream. The wool is thick, cozy, and soft, and the contrast piping makes any winter outfit look clean, elegant, and polished (like the everyday work ensemble in these photos). With the extra 25% off (code: HOLIDAY) 30% off (code: WISHLIST) and free shipping available right now, I'm seriously considering ordering a second in another color thinking this peacoat might be a good alternative since the one I'm wearing is sold out in many sizes.

Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday, readers! Happy 12/12/12!

Stripes, Spots, and Sunshine

Top: J.Crew (sold out in stripe, but solid colors still available) | Skirt: Urban Outfitters (old, see it last styled here, find a similar style here) | Sunglasses: Chloe | Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden | Bag: Coach (similar here) | Necklace: LOFT | Bracelets: J.Crew, Saks, F21, Vintage | Watch: Michael Kors

I was considering heading up to the mountains this weekend to ski, but I'm glad I didn't since the weather was unbelievably beautiful in Denver. It was sunny and warm--so warm that I was able to wear this outfit on a leisurely walk to one of my favorite brunch spots. I had thrown a sweater and scarf into my bag, but I didn't have to touch either one!

The long-sleeved J.Crew Painter Tee I'm wearing here became an instant hit after I picked it up during the most recent 30% off final sale. It has a very flattering slim cut around the waist that makes it perfect for tucking in, like I did here, or for leaving untucked over jeans. It's definitely on my list of "closet classics" I'll probably purchase again in the future.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Snowcat & Cabernet

Jacket: ZARA | Blouse: LOFT (now 40% off) | Pants: J.Crew (or try Crew Cuts if you're petite like me)(now an additional 30% off the sale price!) | Sunglasses: Karen Walker Perfect Day | Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar by Sam Edelman or Valentino | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Necklace: Amrita Singh | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar pyramid stud bracelet here), Aldo, F21 | Rings: Vintage

I decided to hop on the cabernet/burgundy bandwagon and picked up this pretty pleated blouse from LOFT a couple weeks ago during a 50% off flash sale. As of today, it's marked 40% off online (no code needed), as are a bunch of great work-friendly pieces that can do double duty as chic weekend attire. Other picks that fit the bill: the polka dot blouse from this post and this black dress (available in regular, petite, and tall sizing) that will be making an appearance here soon.

Occasionally, I feel like wandering through the Crewcuts (kids') section at J.Crew is worth getting a little bit of the side-eye from their sales associates. Case in point: the snowcat-print pants I'm wearing here, which were essentially the same as the adult version, but cost less, fit better, and had an adjustable waist. If you are a fellow boyish-figured petite and are feeling frustrated with too-long, too-roomy pants at J.Crew, I'd definitely suggest seeing whether a reasonable duplicate of the pants you want might exist in the Crewcuts section. UPDATE: these pants are now an additional 30% off the sale price at J.Crew, making them only $27.99 for the Crewcuts version and $48 for the adult version with code OURTREAT (and free shipping, too!).
