Weekend Vibe + A Couple Reviews of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

Joie 'Quinn' shoes + boyfriend jeans
Top: Urban Outfitters (on sale!) | Denim: ASOS | Shoes: Joie via the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (#NSale) | Bag: Mansur Gavriel (hint: these are notoriously hard to find, but you can pre-order one at Barney's right now!) | Bracelet: Vintage | Earrings: Nadri via the #NSale

Some of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks from my previous post have finally arrived! While not everything is summer-appropriate of course, I thought I'd show you a look with couple pieces that I was able put to work right away and will transition easily into fall, my Joie lace-up sandal-booties and the Nadri Ear Jackets. Remember, the Anniversary Sale is still going on this week, but prices go up on August 3.

Nadri Ear Jacket Nordstrom

I've been looking at earrings in this style (with a back jacket) for a while now, and these pretty Nadri ones really caught my eye while I was browsing the Anniversary Sale. I was delighted to find that they are even prettier in person, and they are light as air on my ears.

I find it difficult to wear heavy earrings for an entire day; these are so light I even forgot to take them out before bed and had no trouble sleeping in them. The jackets have a couple different holes where you can insert the earring, so you can control how low you want them to hang below your ear. The backs are nice and sturdy, so you don't have to worry about them loosening or falling out. I think I'll be wearing these a ton this summer and fall!

2015 Joie Quinn Sandals Norstrom Anniversary Sale Pick

One of my other favorite pieces I ordered from the #NSale? These Joie sandals (booties? a hybrid?). Getting into them takes a little effort, but once they're on, I found them to be very comfortable as long as I left myself plenty of room in the laces. The heel on them is a very walkable stiletto, and the leather is buttery-soft, so no blister issues there. I'm excited to style these in a bunch of different ways--they have so much potential!

Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket Bag

I wore the look in this post yesterday, which was a very busy Sunday. Because of our work schedules, Sean and I don't get to run many errands during the week, so we jam as many as we can into our weekends. When we stopped to quickly take these photos, we had a car full of groceries, so I decided to grab my bunch of supermarket roses and use it as a prop here.

Casual chic.

This location is another great Denver spot. Behind me you can see the interesting architectural features of the Denver Art Museum, and I'm standing on the promenade between the museum and the Denver Public Library. There are some fascinating pieces of public art around this park--here's a little more info on some of the big pieces if you're interested.

Happy Monday!

A Little Trend Salad

Sweater: J.Crew (similar here) | Tank: Urban Outfitters (last seen here) | Skirt: H&M | Leggings: F21 | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Belt: Vintage | Boots: Hunter (review here) | Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim | Necklace: JenniJewel | Bracelets: J.Crew, ALDO, Boutique

As I finished getting dressed for a casual Sunday working at home and running errands, I realized I had thrown a whole bunch of different trends into my outfit.

I started with the comfy leggings I was wearing around the house in the morning and this cozy pink sweater, but since leggings < pants, I thought I should add a little length. Out came this skirt, which I had bought with New Year's Eve in mind, forgetting that NYE in Denver is always freezing, and therefore, a teeny skirt wouldn't really cut it. When I grabbed the skirt from my drawer, I saw this neon yellow lace tank I hadn't worn since last summer and thought it'd be perfect under my cozy cardigan. Since it had snowed on Saturday, warmer temperatures Sunday meant wet, slushy streets, so my galoshes seemed like a practical choice. My new Pashli has been going everywhere with me since it arrived last week (review coming soon), so that was added to the mix. And then what outfit isn't complete without lots of bracelets and trendy sunglasses? On they went, too.

In the end, I had to smile in spite of myself as I ultimately decided to throw Coco Chanel's advice (take one thing off before you leave the house) to the wind and wear a little trend salad. (Because why be a fashion blogger if you can't do that on occasion?)

Stripes, Spots, and Sunshine

Top: J.Crew (sold out in stripe, but solid colors still available) | Skirt: Urban Outfitters (old, see it last styled here, find a similar style here) | Sunglasses: Chloe | Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden | Bag: Coach (similar here) | Necklace: LOFT | Bracelets: J.Crew, Saks, F21, Vintage | Watch: Michael Kors

I was considering heading up to the mountains this weekend to ski, but I'm glad I didn't since the weather was unbelievably beautiful in Denver. It was sunny and warm--so warm that I was able to wear this outfit on a leisurely walk to one of my favorite brunch spots. I had thrown a sweater and scarf into my bag, but I didn't have to touch either one!

The long-sleeved J.Crew Painter Tee I'm wearing here became an instant hit after I picked it up during the most recent 30% off final sale. It has a very flattering slim cut around the waist that makes it perfect for tucking in, like I did here, or for leaving untucked over jeans. It's definitely on my list of "closet classics" I'll probably purchase again in the future.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Russet and Salmon

Cardigan: J.Crew | Tank: F21 (similar here) | Skirt: Urban Outfitters | Belt: Ann Taylor (similar here) | Sunglasses: F21 | Shoes: Charles Jourdan (no longer available) | Clutch: Arden B. (old, but similar here) Necklace: Boutique Bling, Breckenridge, CO | Bracelets: Express (similar coin bracelet from Max&Chloe), J.Crew (similar here), Ann Taylor, ALDO, F21 | Watch: Michael Kors | Earrings: Kendra Scott (similar here)

September has been absolutely flying by! The endless hot weather finally broke, and now I have the opportunity to break out some fall colors and styles. I love summer most, but being a Colorado mountain girl, my wardrobe necessarily contains a lot of cozy cold-weather styles. Although it's been nice to visit a little with my coats, sweaters, scarves, and hats, I hope summer weather lingers on a while longer before it fades for good; I have a few more ideas for warmer-weather weather outfits, and I'm not ready to shelve them quite yet for the year!

Blue Streak

Dress: F21 (similar style here) | Flower Pin: F21 (similar here) | Belt: Urban Outfitters | Sunglasses: Karen Walker Perfect Day | Shoes: Ann Taylor | Bag: Tory Burch (similar here) | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), Express (similar from Max&Chloe), Ann Taylor, F21, Boutique

I wore this easy, breezy outfit to take a stroll through some antique shops and vintage boutiques and, even better, to get some delicious ice cream at Sweet Action, a great local ice cream shop. Their sorbets are out-of-this-world good, especially the lime and raspberry ones (yum!).

I'm happy this week's nearly over--how about you? I'm heading off to Pennsylvania/New Jersey to spend some quality time at the shore with family. Should be fun!

Weekend Chic: Coral and Neutrals

Blouse: Urban Outfitters (similar here and here) | Pants: Arden B. (old) | Sunglasses: Prada | Shoes: Steve Madden (similar here) | Bag: kate spade new york | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), Express (similar from Max&Chloe), Ann Taylor, F21 | Watch: Michael Kors

Having just finished a big trial at work, I'm excited to do a little more blogging this week than I did last week. It's been a crazy month at work, and there's more still to come, so you might hear from me a little less than usual in the coming weeks.

I got to relax a little this weekend and take a walk down to one of my favorite brunch spots. This outfit was perfect for a warm summer morning stroll, and while the base pieces are fairly low-key and neutral, I added a lot of fun accessories to make it a little more interesting.

Readers, what did you do this weekend?

Neon, Stripes, and My Favorite Accessory

Tank: Pins & Needles | Jacket: Zara| Skirt: Nordstrom BP | Sunglasses: Karen Walker
Shoes: ALDO | Bag: kate spade new york | Necklace: JenniJewel
Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), F21, Ann Taylor, boutique

Last weekend, I got to have my favorite dog at my house for a few days while my parents were on vacation (I keep trying to convince my mom that he should come live with me to no avail). He's a very lovable, well-behaved dog, but his attention span is about one-half to one second at best, so he wasn't a particularly cooperative model when we were trying to take these photos. (What I envision he's thinking: "I think someone said my name so I'll--ooooh! Park park park! Other dogs over here! People walking by over there! Grass! Was that a squirrel? Ooh, trash can! . . .")

Despite his lack of modeling discipline, he will smile for the camera if the photographer also happens to be holding a treat near the lens, which is how I shot the photo below. I miss this sweet little face already!

Neon Lace

Jacket: Zara | Tank: Pins and Needles | Skirt: Pins and Needles | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: Charles David | Bag: Tory Burch (similar here) | Necklaces: Ann Taylor (similar here), JenniJewel | Bracelets: J.Crew (similar here), F21, boutique | Belt: H&M

Tip: This jean jacket is a petite-friendly find from Zara--I'm wearing an XS here, and it fits nicely. I love that it's a more streamlined, fitted version of the one I wore constantly at age ten--definitely an American classic.

Black and White and Leopard (Oh My!)

Photos: Katie Derus | Cardigan: J.Crew Crewcuts (similar style here) | Flower Pin: Forever 21 | Skirt: Urban Outfitters | Belt: Vintage | Sunglasses: Chloe | Shoes: Ann Taylor | Bracelets: Express, Nordstrom, F21, Common Era, Boutique | Ring: Nordstrom (similar here)

While I realize that fashion and color go hand-in-hand, I also love the occasional black-and-white fashion editorial. Katie almost always gives me photos in color and black and white (and they're always stunning), so I thought I'd share a couple with you. I especially like the contrast and texture in these photos.

Readers, do you like black-and-white fashion photos, or do you prefer color? Fellow bloggers, do you ever use black-and-white photos on your blogs?
