We went straight from late summer the weekend before last in Denver to full-on winter last week all over Colorado! This summer-loving girl is sad, but excited for the ski season that's coming up. Sean and I have big plans to spend some time in the mountains next week over the holiday, so I'm getting all my ski gear ready to go.

I'm surprised this is the first time I've worn Kristina's awesome skirt on the blog. A pink tulle skirt can really brighten a girl's day! I know Kristina is currently taking a much-needed hiatus from designing and creating cute skirts and tees, but you can follow her on Instagram at @peacelovetulle and check out her travels with her cute kiddos. Maybe she'll post a few things here and there if you luck out!

Happy Hump Day! Hope you're having a great week. Tune in for another post later this week and a fun gift guide over the weekend!

x, Tam

Work Outfit: the Shirt-under-Dress Look

Shirt Under Dress Outfit

Layering Shirt under Dress
Shirt: BCBG | Dress: LOFT (similar here) | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Bag: Reed Krakoff | Bracelets: David Yurman | Watch: Michele | Earrings: Vintage

Today I'm sharing a simple work look that puts a favorite sheath dress to work as a grown-up, chic rendition of the classic schoolgirl-style jumper.

I don't often wear this type of structured collared shirt with my suits because of their tendency to quickly become untucked and unkempt-looking when I'm constantly moving around a courtroom (yes, you really do have to stand up every time you make an objection or speak at all, then sit right back down). Under a dress, however, it's a non-issue, and with the sleeves rolled down and a blazer on top, the whole look is very professional and put-together.

P.S. I am linking up with Mix & Match Fashion this week for her What I Wore to Work Linkup.

Dot-Dot-Dot

Anthro Romana Dress Layered

Dress layered for winter

Jimmy Choo Glitter Clutch
Dress: Anthropologie (no longer available, similar here) | Turtleneck: H&M (similar here | Tights: H&M c/o | Sunglasses: Valentino | Shoes: L.K. Bennett | Clutch: Jimmy Choo | Necklace: Ann Taylor | Bracelets: David Yurman, Swarovski, J.Crew | Watch: Michele

It was nice to take a break from work this weekend and catch up with the blog a little. January has been pretty brutal at work after the holiday lull, so there hasn't been much time to wear anything but suits all day and flannel pajamas when I finally get home at night. I'm excited to have a few posts to share with you this week, though!

One of my favorite purchases this winter has been my plain black turtleneck. It's comfy, cozy, flattering, and perfect for layering to make more summery dresses winter-friendly. The Anthropologie dress I'm wearing here is pretty lightweight, but adding tights and a sweater underneath makes it a three- or four-season piece. I could also see wearing it to work like this if I worked in a more casual environment.

Hope you had a great weekend, too!

Layers upon Layers

Frye Melissa Button Boots

J.Crew Buffalo Check Jacket.jpg

Karen Walker Super Duper Strength Sunglasses

J.Crew Buffalo Check Peacoat
Coat: J.Crew (temporarily out-of-stock, but love this classic peacoat too) | Top: Limited | Jeans: J.Brand | Scarf: H&M | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Bag: 3.1 phillip lim, available at Barney's or Otte NY (read my review) | Socks: Nordstrom (no longer available, but I have my eye on these & these) | Boots: Frye Melissa Button (read my review) | Bracelets: David Yurman, Tiffany | Watch: Michele

Last week's warm weather quickly fizzled here in Denver, and it got very, very cold over the weekend (as it did in most of the country, it seems!). When it's this chilly, I love layering nice, thick over-the-knee socks over thin socks and skinny jeans to keep my legs toasty. A big, soft scarf also helps keep the chill at bay. Hope you're all staying warm!

Big Shot Dot: Remixed

Dress (worn as skirt): J.Crew (Big Shot Dot Dress, Spring 2012--last seen here) (similar here) | Shirt: Aeropostale (last seen here) | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Clutch: Arden B. (similar style here) | Necklace: Ann Taylor (old) | Bracelets: J.Crew, Vintage | Rings: Vintage | Watch: kate spade new york

This pretty polka dot dress has been sitting in my closet unworn since its last outing over a year ago, so I decided to try styling it as a skirt. I loved the result--pretty, feminine, and more casual than the dress on its own. (Added bonus: styling a dress this way gives me the opportunity to wear the knotted shirt trend without the risk of midriff peeking out at an inopportune moment!)

Winterizing a Summer Dress

Blazer: H&M | Sweater: Abercrombie (old) | Dress: H&M (see it styled for summer) (similar here) | Scarf: Target | Tights: Hue (similar style here) | Belt: Ann Taylor | Sunglasses: Chloe (currently at an amazing discount) | Boots: Nine West (old, similar here) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (similar here) | Necklace: Jenni Jewel

It's about this time of year that I begin to feel a little tired of my winter wardrobe and begin looking longingly at my summer dresses as I pull on my usual sweater, jeans, and boots. The dress I'm wearing here was one of my favorites this summer, and I'd been wanting to restyle it for winter for quite a while. A few layers later, my summer dress was winter-ready, and I was a happy girl.
