Red All Over

Dress: ASOS | Sunglasses: Karen Walker Perfect Day | Shoes: Nine West (similar here)
Bracelets: Tiffany, Swarovski, ALDO, Boutique | Lips: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Coral

I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it pop up on ASOS--it's bright, lacy, and feminine, and the poufy skirt and cut-out back make it more interesting than your typical party dress. The back can also be easily covered with a cute cropped cardigan or jacket for more conservative occasions, making it appropriate for a variety of dressy events.

A Petite 1 was just the right size on me. ASOS sizing is very true to the measurements they indicate on their sizing guide, which makes ordering from them so easy and hassle-free. I will say that I was somewhat disappointed about the quality of the nude-colored lining in this dress. It was flimsy and thin to the point that I had to MacGyver myself a backless bra to make sure there was adequate coverage in the front. (Note: my "DIY" bra involved several safety pins and packing tape--definitely wouldn't recommend it and have put a bra like this one on my shopping list.)

    1. Thanks so much, Amber! I was debating whether to try an updo, but I thought wearing my hair a little undone toned down the dress a bit.

    1. Thanks, Megan! It comes in black, too, which I think would be more versatile. Like I said, it becomes much more buttoned-up and conservative with a cropped cardigan. I ended up wearing it to a black tie optional event, but I'm definitely going to bust it out in the future for a party (over the holidays maybe?) or a fancy dinner out.

    1. Ha, glad you liked it! I crammed a roll of tape into my clutch so I could re-secure my bra if necessary--thankfully, it stayed put the whole evening!

  11. LOVE the dress! I have mixed emotions on the backless silicone bras...maybe it's just me. I bought one and it looked so ridiculous under my dress, that I just went w/ classic pasties! It looked like I had grown breasts on top of my breasts! It didn't contour very well and just looked very unnatural. Let me know if you find one that you like!

  17. Oh my gosh! How on earth did I miss you in this dress! As you perfectly said it, the dress is bright, lacy, and feminine, and the pouf? Well you know I love those poufy skirts! lol. You look beautiful and I'm sure you were turning heads left and right that day/evening!

  18. You looked AMAZING & elegant in this beautiful lace dress. I'm thinking of getting it from ASOS but will it be too short for someone who's 1.64m tall?

    1. I don't think so. If I did my math right, after converting meters to feet, you'd be 5'4.5". As you can see, the dress is about two inches or so above my knee. I think I'd be comfortable with it being an inch or two shorter, and I think that's how it would probably end up on you.

If you look on the ASOS site, they use the same models to showcase both regular and petite pieces. Since their models are probably at least 5'8" (if not taller, I'm guessing), you can count on it not looking quite as short on you as it does on them.

Also, as I said in my post, I've found that ASOS sizing is very true to the measurements they give on their sizing guide, if not a little on the small side. The waist measurement on this dress will be the most important since it is very fitted at the waist.

Hope that helps, and hope you love the dress! It's a conversation starter, for sure!

  19. Hi Framboise! Firstly, the dress looks amazing on you!!
I'm really thinking of getting this for a Christmas party where the theme is 'little red dress'. Do you think this dress can be considered 'little' on someone 5'3 tall?

    1. I think this could totally be your "little red dress." It probably won't be scandalously short, but I think the cut-out back and lace definitely put it into LRD territory. I think it would be amazing for a fancy Christmas party!

  21. I have had this dress in my cart for a while and was debating over black v red and the backless bra issue. But after seeing it on you - I am sold! Thank you haha :)

You mentioned the waist was a tight - do you mind sharing your waist size and the size you bought? I usually fit US 1 but not sure if I should size up?

I have also started following you! Keep the outfits coming x

    1. Hi Naomi! Glad my photos were helpful. The waist is definitely tight. My waist is about 23", and a US 1 was very snug at the waist. I usually fit Petite US 1 to a T, but I think I might have been more comfortable in a Petite US 2.

    2. Hi Tam! Thanks for the measurements :) I bit the bullet and got the US 1 (equivalent to AU 4) and am so happy with it! I posted some pics on http://petiteplayground.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/festive-lace.html - hope you can have a look!
